If chickens had feet with opposing thumbs, not only would a hen be able to lay an egg twice, roosters could lay eggs too. Talk about equal opportunity! ;-)

…If I take an egg out of its carton and lay it on the counter, the egg is then lying on the counter, not laying on the counter. I recall being schooled on that by my dear mom once upon a time, but my memory is feeble these days :-)
Thank you for the compliment, though I don't know that I am much better at this than you. The differences between the tenses and participles of lie and lay still confuse me and require double checking. So I did double check and I think your feeble memory is hanging in there.
