Add a Phoneme and Have a Happy New Year

A wonderful quotation by an unknown author:

"A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one Year and out the other."

/hæpi nu ir/... Oops, I meant to say /hæpi nu jir/

I have a query.. I may definitely be wrong because I'm on my first Univ. year training as an English teacher in a Spanish speaking country (Argentina) but... isn't it /nju:/?? That's what I was taught! And now I'm all mixed up, hehe. Has that word changed that much? Is it AmE, BrE??
wow.. so many questions (?... Well, I'll take this opportunity to let you know that I find this blog quite useful and that I loved the xmas-themed topics... I sent those trees to my classmates for Christmas (:
Kindest regards, Lucy

mandarinis - My pronunciation is certainly more AmE, though I do know people who were born and raised in my home state of Michigan that use your pronunciation. I don't believe there is a right or wrong; it is all idiolectical/dialectical.
P.S. Thank you for your kind compliments.
