I have a query.. I may definitely be wrong because I'm on my first Univ. year training as an English teacher in a Spanish speaking country (Argentina) but... isn't it /nju:/?? That's what I was taught! And now I'm all mixed up, hehe. Has that word changed that much? Is it AmE, BrE?? wow.. so many questions (?... Well, I'll take this opportunity to let you know that I find this blog quite useful and that I loved the xmas-themed topics... mandarinis - My pronunciation is certainly more AmE, though I do know people who were born and raised in my home state of Michigan that use your pronunciation. I don't believe there is a right or wrong; it is all idiolectical/dialectical. P.S. Thank you for your kind compliments.
